Why we started Empty Nester

We've always been the kind of people our friends and neighbours turned to when they needed someone to look after their home or their pets. The good neighbour who keeps a spare key, notices when something's not right, and genuinely cares about the people and animals next door. Over the years, we've house-sat for dozens of families across the South Coast — and every time, we saw the same thing: the relief on people's faces when they knew their home was in good hands.

We also noticed something else. As our community aged, we saw more and more elderly residents living alone — wonderful people whose adult children had moved to Sydney or Melbourne for work, and who worried about their parents from a distance. We started visiting some of these people informally, helping with the garden, sharing a cup of tea, doing a bit of tidying. The difference it made was remarkable.

Empty Nester grew out of all of that. It's not a corporate venture — it's us, doing what we love, for the people and places we care about. We regularly travel between Thirroul, Kiama Downs, Batemans Bay, Pambula and Merimbula — so wherever you are on the South Coast, there's a good chance we're already nearby.

We're not insured professionals, and we're transparent about that. We work on a trust basis — the same way you'd ask a close friend to look after your home. We meet every client in person before we start, we keep you updated throughout, and we treat your home and your loved ones with the same care we'd want for our own.
